The Morningstar TriStar MPPT is a high performance solar charge controller with maximum power point tracking technology. The TrakStarTM algorithm determines the optimum operating point of the solar generator. Compared to conventional shunt or series charge controllers, the TriStar MPPT thereby provides more energy, especially at sunrise or low temperatures.
The biggest advantage of the TriStar MPPT, however, is that not only stand-alone modules with 36 or 72 cells can be connected, but also cheaper grid-and thin-film modules. The open circuit voltage of the PV generator can be up to 150V.
The TriStar MPPT can handle a max. current of 60A at 12, 24 or 48V. Thus, the connection of photovoltaic generators up to 3kWp is possible.
The TriStar is easy to use and offers a comprehensive electronic protection against reverse polarity, short circuit, overcurrent, high temperature and overvoltage. The rugged housing, and the generously sized heat sink allow uninterrupted operation at full ratings, even at high ambient temperatures.
The setup of the TriStar is easy to understand and done via DIP switches inside the unit. The TriStar can also be configured with a computer via the integrated RS-232 interface. Data acquisition and remote monitoring is also possible via this interface.
The MPPT TriStar TS-60 is even equipped with an Ethernet interface and can be integrated into any computer network. Via a Web browser the operational data of the MPPT TriStar TS-60 can be accessed directly.
Included with the Tristar MPPT is a temperature sensor with 10m cable. By connecting a battery voltage sensor, the control accuracy of the TriStar can be further improved.
Optionally, an LCD for the TriStar is available. Thus, the operating data from one or more devices can be read directly.
